Art Project Invites You to Leave Your Mark
It’s not often that libraries encourage their customers to do anything with the books they borrow other than read them, but a unique artistic experiment in our library system is about to change all that with the introduction of “Leave Your Mark!” Inspired by a visual library idea at the University of Portsmouth and the Portsmouth City library in England, FCPL’s “Leave Your Mark” invites the community to literally leave your mark in any of a number of blank journals. The idea is to provide art quality journals that each have a theme, such as Dream, or Ocean, or My Family that you can create art that takes the form of any visual medium including drawing, painting, writing, photography and even sewing. Each book will have a theme in which people can express themselves. It’s open to anyone with a creative streak or those who just want to leave their mark.
The “visual library books” are available to borrow from the Central Library. Anyone with a library card can borrow one for up to two weeks. You can also place holds for a particular title. Children’s books will be at the desk in the Children’s Department, teen books will be in Teen Central, and adult books will be in a special display area near Humanities Department.
