Synopsis and Discussion

Air quality levels continue to trend downward very slowly, but ozone and particle pollution concentrations remain in the lower Code YELLOW range this afternoon. A hot and humid air mass remains over the Carolinas, with isolated showers and storms initiating in the early afternoon during peak heating hours. More of the same is expected tomorrow as the Triad should see one more round of hot and humid conditions and isolated afternoon storms that should have little impact from lowering air quality levels lower than the low Code YELLOW range. An upper level trough begins to sharpen over the eastern United States and is expected to usher in a cold front late Tuesday. The day should start off like previous days, but convection is expected to be more organized. With numerous showers coupled with increasing cloudiness, air quality levels should finally drop to the upper Code GREEN range by Tuesday afternoon. Early morning clouds should limit ozone production on Wednesday, but skies should clear out enough in the afternoon to elevate air quality levels into the upper Code GREEN range. (Payne)
