Amanda Markle will be Forsyth County’s new tax collector and assessor

Forsyth County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted on June 5 to appoint Amanda Markle to the position of tax collector and assessor, starting July 7.

Markle has 21 years of experience in tax administration. She began her career in 2004 as a revenue agent in Wake County Tax Administration before being promoted to an administrative services coordinator in 2012. In 2017, she became division manager for Durham’s Tax Administration. She was promoted to deputy tax assessor in Durham in 2020, a position she still currently holds.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC Chapel Hill and numerous designations and certifications including Certified County Assessor, Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS), Personal Property Appraiser, Real Property Appraiser, County Real Property Appraiser I and II, and County Personal Property Appraiser.

“I look forward to serving the citizens of Forsyth County to ensure fair and equitable assessments in tax value and tax collections,” said Markle. “I also look forward to sharing with the community all the tax relief opportunities that are available. I want to ensure that each and every taxpayer that may qualify for a tax relief benefit receives that benefit.”

Markle will succeed Tax Collector/Assessor John Burgiss who recently retired after 31 years of services.

“I’m excited to welcome Amanda to the Forsyth County team,” said County Manager Shontell Robinson. ”Her depth of experience in tax administration and strong interpersonal skills make her a great fit for this role. I’m confident she will work well with our staff, elected officials and the community.”
