Synopsis and Discussion

Increased dewpoints and cloud cover have limited ozone production today, keeping air quality levels in the middle to upper Code GREEN range. The Triad remains sandwiched between a frontal boundary to the north and the remnants of Arthur moving in from the southwest, and the convergence of both should help trigger some scattered showers and storms for the Triad later this afternoon and through the evening. Precipitation chances should greatly reduce Friday morning as the system moves east and allows for skies to gradually clear into the afternoon. Air quality levels will likely start off low, but northwesterly flow off the Appalachians will likely induce compressional warming and elevate temperatures enough for decent ozone production to occur. For now, air quality levels are expected to remain in the upper Code GREEN range, with a few afternoon hours likely reaching Code YELLOW. Conditions remain dry into Saturday, though increasing southwesterly winds will likely increase temperatures across the Triad and allow ozone levels to reach low Code YELLOW by the afternoon. Hot and humid air returns to the Triad on Sunday, with air quality levels likely remaining low Code YELLOW. (Payne)
