Synopsis and Discussion

Ozone readings are generally in the lower to middle Code Yellow range across the Triad on Tuesday. Fine particle concentrations are in the mid Code Green range. Following this morning’s cooler temperatures and dry air, the summer heat will return through the rest of the workweek. Tomorrow will feature low dew points and with mainly sunny skies and light winds, ozone readings are expected to approach the Code Yellow/Orange threshold. With clean air aloft being mixed down to the surface, the threat of some afternoon clouds, and a forecast trajectory that is not necessarily typical of high ozone readings in the Triad, a Code Yellow forecast is being maintained at this time. Nevertheless, stay tuned to the forecast in case any upward adjustments are necessary on Wednesday morning. Increasing moisture and storm chances will help lower ozone concentrations on Thursday and Friday, although Moderate readings are still expected. Fine particle concentrations should remain generally low until 4th of July festivities commence on Thursday evening. Code Yellow daily averages are expected as a result and with elevated concentrations likely continuing overnight and into Friday morning, daily averages are expected to net out in the Moderate range once again to round out the workweek.
