The Springs of Stokes County in Walkertown

Interested in local history? Do you know that in 1850s - 1920s Stokes County in NC was a destination for the entire country? Come and listen to the story of Stokes County Springs told by a local historian Steve Shelton.

The area of the Sauratown Mountains of Stokes County -- combined with its springs -- developed into a thriving resort area for several decades from the 1850s - 1920s. Hundreds of guests from cities across North Carolina and other states packed Stokes County’s resort hotels through the summer months.

For the past twenty years Steve Shelton has collected postcards from the Vade Mecum, Piedmont and Moore’s mineral springs. He will present postcards, some considered very rare, and tell the story of the springs.
