Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center Receives Donation

The Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center of the Forsyth County Public Library is the recent recipient of a video collection chronicling local heroes and community events.

The donation, given by Karim Allah as a part of the library’s Black History Month Celebration, serves as a time capsule of area history, documenting an important period of our East Winston’s past. The collection includes interviews conducted over the course of thirteen years during Mr. Allah’s TV Show, which are highlighted by conversations with many prominent local figures like Carl Matthews, who served as leader of the first sit-in victory; William Roscoe Anderson, who established the first basketball team at Winston-Salem State; Dr. Rembert Malloy, Clarence “Big House” Gaines, and pioneers of the Nation of Islam in Forsyth County. Also included are his self-produced documentaries The First Forty Years of Atkins High School and The Reunion of the Black Haze Band.

Mr. Allah hopes that the community is inspired by the collection and that the stories in the videos will serve as a history lesson and blueprint for success among area youth. The library plans to digitize the donation and make it available at both Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center and Central Library’s North Carolina Room. For more information or to view Mr. Allah’s collection, contact the Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center at 336-703-2950.
