Information Services now located at Government Center

The Library's Information Services Department has a new temporary home at the Forsyth County Government Center. As you enter the Government Center at 201 Chestnut Street in Winston-Salem turn left and immediately past the Security Desk is Information Services. Reference desk hours will be from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Library customers with need for information can call either 703-3050 or 703-3020 or stop by the Government Center to have their questions answered. Parking on the first level of the Government Center deck is free but you will first have to pick up a free daily pass at the front desk of Information Services.

The Library's Information Services Department is a comprehensive source for business information for individuals, organizations and companies in Forsyth County. The Chamber of Commerce, Forsyth Tech’s Small Business Center, Winston Salem State University's Small Business Technology Development Center, and the City Development Office regularly send their clients for consultations with librarians who help them with business development strategies. Library reference service is a driver for local economic development.

Nonprofit Resource Center materials and electronic access to the Foundation Center’s funding information databases will be available for public use during Information Services regular hours of operation. A small collection of reference materials will be available at the Government Center. Two hours per week will be devoted to NC Knows (hours to be determined).

During their time at the Government Center Information Services will continue doing outreach work around the community with six hours each week being spent at locations away from the Government Center. Examples of the many opportunities for outreach include:
• job readiness classes at the Urban League
• Business Consortium meetings with the Urban League
• quick weekly promotional appearances at FTCC’s Small Business Center classes
• speak to Chamber Leads groups and downtown professional networking groups
• teach classes at FTCC Employability Lab - West Campus
• collaborate with Forsyth County’s Human Resources Department to expand the Wellness initiative to include the Library as an information resource
• guest speaker at SBTDC entrepreneur classes

Annual programs which we look forward to continuing are:
• Forsyth County’s Employee Health Fair
• Forsyth Tech’s Job Fairs, both Kernersville and Winston-Salem
• Chamber Expo
• Winston-Salem Association of Realtor’s Business Expo
• System-wide Teacher Training for WSFCS
• Parent’s Back to School Fair
