The Hometown Crisis: Opioid Epidemic Monday, March 5 at 6 pm at Walkertown

On Monday, March 5 at 6 pm, Daren Ziglar will speak at Walkertown Branch Library on The Hometown Crisis: Opioid Epidemic. Mr. Ziglar is Assistant Chief for Forsyth County Emergency Services and a Medical Examiner for Forsyth County.

The North Carolina Opioid Action Plan states that there has been an 800% increase in deaths caused by opioid overdoses since 1999. The action plan was instituted by Governor Roy Cooper in 2017 to help combat the opioid crisis in North Carolina. According to Governor Cooper, “North Carolina is losing lives to opioids, an addiction that ravages physical and mental health, hurts families and communities, and holds back our economy.”

At this important community meeting, learn in-depth information about the opioid epidemic. Mr. Ziglar will cover the epidemic at national, state, and local levels as well as how the epidemic occurred. He will explain the nature of addiction and what is being done at state and local levels to combat it. Additionally, he will share how education can help the public and what the public can do to help.

For additional information, including the North Carolina Opioid Action Plan, please visit the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ web page on the opioid crisis at https://www.ncdhhs.gov/opioids.
